Laser Hair Removal

Laser Hair Removal

Unwanted hair growth on the face and body is a common aesthetic concern, but often leaves people feeling too embarrassed to seek medical help. While shaving, waxing and threading are useful to temporarily remove the unwanted hair, the effects are only that – temporary. It is also not unusual for the hair to grow back thicker, faster and darker. Alternatively, Laser Hair Removal is a safe and effective treatment to remove unwanted hair in areas of concern, leaving you with a naturally soft and smooth appearance.

How it works:

Laser Hair Removal works by targeting hair follicles going through the anagen phase (also known as the active growth phase). Using controlled pulses of energy from the laser beam, active hair follicles sitting just beneath the surface of the skin are targeted to disrupt the growth cycle. The energy heats the hair and destroys the root to safely kill the follicle and prevent the hair from growing. Since lasers target pigmentation (in this case, the colour pigmentation of the hair) the treatment does not touch or damage surrounding areas of tissue. Since not all hair follicles will be in the growth phase at the same time, a course of treatment is recommended to ensure the growth of all follicles is disrupted.

Results & Recovery:

Results will show immediately after treatment, with a course of treatments recommended depending on the target area, your skin tone, and the mass of unwanted hair. A top-up treatment is usually recommended after 12 months to ensure long-lasting success. The treatment causes minimal pain, though some people experience mild redness and sensitivity which can be reduced through the application of aloe gel after the treatment.

Does laser hair removal hurt?

A mild prickling sensation may be experienced, though for many the treatment is completely painless. A topical anesthetic cream can be applied prior to treatment to alleviate any concern.

Am I suitable for laser hair removal?

Lasers work by targeting pigmentation, so unless your hair is red, white or grey, then yes, you should be a suitable candidate for the treatment.

How often will I need treatment?

Approximately 5 – 8 treatments are recommended depending on the area being treated. These should be booked at 4 week intervals for facial treatment and 6 week intervals for body treatment.

How should I prepare before a treatment?

For optimum results you should avoid any hair removal treatments such as waxing or threading at least 6 weeks before treatment. If you need to remove hair in this time period, shaving is the best way to do so. It is also recommended to avoid sun exposure prior to treatment. It is important to discuss any medications you are currently taking with your doctor at Eternel Clinic.

What about aftercare?

Sources of heat such as sun exposure, saunas, baths and hot showers should be avoided immediately after the treatment. Cardiovascular exercise and swimming should also be avoided due to potential irritation.
